Signs You Might Have Termites

Subterranean termites build pencil-width mud tubes along foundations and piers to keep moisture with them as they travel. A tube on your slab edge is the single most reliable early sign.

In spring, swarmers leave discarded wings on window sills and near light fixtures. Homeowners often mistake them for flying ants — termite wings are equal in length, ant wings are not.

Tap suspect trim and baseboards. A hollow or papery sound, blistered paint, or wood that gives under light pressure all warrant an inspection before the damage reaches framing.
