When to Treat for Fire Ants in South Texas

Fire ants in Victoria County are active nearly year-round, but colonies forage hardest when soil temperatures sit between 70 and 90 degrees. One well-timed annual treatment in spring gives the best season of control.

A broadcast bait applied in those windows is carried into the colony and reaches the queen, which is what actually ends a mound. Treating a single visible mound with contact product usually just relocates it a few feet away.

For most properties, one annual treatment in spring is enough. If you have children, pets or livestock on the property, a carefully timed application keeps the total number of active colonies low instead of chasing them all summer.
